Slack – USC Mann School Workspace
Overview
Slack is the University’s collaboration platform of choice and allows for easy communication through instant messaging & sharing of files. This tool is now available to all USC faculty, staff, and students. The school has its own Slack workspace where people can create private channels to collaborate among just their team, or send direct messages to any other Slack user in USC.
Inviting New Members
Anyone already part of the school workspace can invite others to join. Invitees must have a valid USC email address to be invited to our workspace.
A full guide on how to invite new members to a workspace is available on Slack’s website: https://slack.com/help/articles/201330256-Invite-new-members-to-your-workspace
Creating Private Channels
A private channel allows you to collaborate securely with your colleagues from the workspace. Messages and files shared within a private channel are only visible to those who have been invited. For example, a research team may use a private channel for their lab. Or a group of students might use one for collaborative study. Anyone in the workspace can create a private channel and invite other workspace members to join.
Slack has a comprehensive guide for this available on their website: https://slack.com/help/articles/201402297-Create-a-channel
