How to Request Elevated Access (EPM)
Overview
Most users do not have administrative privileges on Mann IT-provided devices. This is to help prevent the installation and spread of malware that could impact the university's overall security posture. Instead, users who require elevated privileges to install or modify software can make a request from their device using EPM (elevated privilege management). Mann IT will review this request and approve or deny based on the business need provided.
REMINDER: School-provided devices should be used for the purposes of university business only. Requests to install unnecessary software may be denied in accordance with USC ITS's acceptable use policy.
When to Request Elevated Access
Elevated access refers to the ability to perform administrative tasks on the device. Some examples of tasks that require elevated access are:
Installing new applications
Updating software not managed by Mann IT
Modifying some system settings
Requesting Elevated Access from File Explorer
Navigate to the executable (.exe) file you want to run.
Right-click the file, then select 'Run with elevated access'

Follow the same steps: fill in the justification and submit your request.

Once submitted, your request goes to your IT admin for approval. You will receive a notification once it's approved or denied.
