Labshare Archival Storage
Warning: Labshares are only suitable for the storage of data that is classified as Public or Internal Use Only. For details of data classifications, please see USC's Data Classifications page.
Suggestion: USC Mann IT recommends that teams consider using Microsoft SharePoint as their primary tool for cloud storage and collaboration, as this offers both ease of access and convenient sharing with others inside USC. Labshares are best suited for the archival of data that is less commonly needed.
Overview
Mann IT is able to provide research labs with network storage for the purposes of backing up and archiving lab data. We provide an initial storage size of 250GB, which can be extended if necessary with a provided business justification.
Lab PIs can request a Labshare for their team by submitting the Labshare Archival Storage request form.
Eligibility
At this time, Labshare network storage is available to USC Mann research labs. Labshares can be accessed by any current USC Mann faculty, staff, or student identified by the requesting PI.
Access
Labshares can be accessed by faculty, staff, and students who have an active USC NetID, and have been identified to access a share by the lab PI.
Access to a Labshare is restricted to being on either:
- USC Wired Network
- USC Secure Wi-Fi
- USC VPN (details available at https://itservices.usc.edu/vpn/)
It is possible to connect to Labshares from both school-owned and personal devices.
Mann IT has published step-by-step instructions for connecting to Labshares on both Windows PC and Apple macOS devices.
